GEMIT, the Green Energy and Manufacturing Institute of Technology, has unveiled an innovative solar panel recycling initiative aimed at reducing e-waste and increasing the sustainability of renewable energy production. The program, announced at GEMIT’s annual Sustainability Summit, introduces a patented method to recover up to 95% of materials from decommissioned solar panels, including valuable metals like silver and silicon.

Dr. Ananya Gupta, lead researcher at GEMIT’s Renewable Energy Lab, emphasized the importance of addressing the environmental impact of aging solar infrastructure. "Our goal is to create a circular economy in the solar industry, where old panels can be recycled into new ones," she said. This initiative positions GEMIT at the forefront of green innovation, with potential partnerships being discussed with major solar manufacturers across India and Europe.
